Gilmore girls: what happened between mitchum (Logan's dad) and rory?

Mitchum hired Rory as a intern for his writing company and after a while of Rory working for Mitchum he told Rory that she doesn't have what it takes to become a writer and her work was not good and he pretty much told her she failed as a writer.
