I was wondering why did my aftermarket intake has some minor damages on its air filter?

I was wondering why did my aftermarket intake has some minor damages on its air filter? Is it because it wasn't fitted properly? As of now, my car got its stock intake re-install because it was running on lean because of the aftermarket intake! Now, I blow a lot of money on the intake which I got last December, so how do I find the right car for the intake? I used to have a friend who just convince me of getting an intake! I was so gullible!
