Why do you think harry pretended to be dead?

Was he just improvising? i mean, if he had got up, voldemorts wouldn't be able to kill him because of lily's blood running through voldemort. and was harry only binded to life when voldemorts tried to kill him? because lily protected him from voldemort, not anything else. so like if a death eater killed him, wouldn't he die for real?
