Why is Malcolm X idolized in schools like San Fransisco State?

SFSU has a huge mural of malcolm X, saying 'by any means necessary,' and i want to know why they have such high honor for him but just a little tiny memorial plaque for MLK Jr.... Really, why is he so idolized? If youre from SFSU please answer =)
